Gold Milk (Turmeric Ayurvedic Drink)

2tbs. Turmeric Powder
Honey to taste
1/4 tsp. Black pepper
3 cups plus 1/3 cup Water
1 cup Almonds
1/2 tsp. coconut oil


Almond Milk:
Soak the almonds for 6 hours and rinse. In a blender blend the almonds with 3 cups of water and a tbs. of honey.Strain and set aside.
Turmeric Paste:
In a small pan warm 1/3 cup of water and 2 tbs of turmeric as well as the pepper powder. Stir and continue to cook on a low fire for a few minutes. If it gets too dry add a tsp. more of water. Once the color changes to a darker shade of Yellow, take it off the stove and let it cool. Once cool store the turmeric paste in a glass container in the fridge.
Gold Milk:
Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric paste, 1/2 tsp coconut oil and a full cup of Almond milk to a small sauce pan and warm gently. Add honey or stevia if desired and stir and cook till warm. Take off the fire and serve.
Gold milk is usually taken in the late evening before bed. It is known to relax and encourage a restful sleep.
If you have no issues with dairy then milk can be substituted for Almond milk and Ghee can be substituted for coconut oil.

In India this is a nourishing as well as nurturing drink called "Haldi Doodh." My Gran used to make it for me quite often. I drank it because it tasted so good. Little did I know of its origin and benefits. I had to travel many thousands of miles some odd 20 years later to learn here in America that this is an age old Ayurvedic Recipe used for over 4,000 years for just about every ailment out there. Today I prepare it for my family in the non dairy version simple because Cows don't roam free here like they still do in my little town in Goa, India. Namaste!
